National Group has announced the largest recruitment campaign in its history as it begins hiring up to 60 new employees by December.

National Group has been awarded several recent new contracts in NSW and Queensland. This includes the large supply of fully maintained mobile mining equipment to Newcrest Mining’s Cadia gold Mine in NSW.

Extra staff are needed at National Group operations as the business expands its fleet and prepares for rising equipment demand next year as mining activity strengthens after Covid.

“We are excited about creating up to 60 full-time jobs for people who want to build a successful career at National Group,” says founder and managing director Mark Ackroyd. “Attracting, developing and retaining good people is integral to National Group’s next growth phase.”

From humble beginnings in 1997, National Group has become one of Australia’s great privately owned mining-services companies and a leading provider of heavy-earthmoving equipment rental. The business serves some of the world’s largest mining companies.

National Group wants to recruit Heavy Haulage (Multi-Combination) drivers for National Heavy Haulage, maintenance supervisors, plant clerks, operators and diesel fitters.

In 2020, National Group launched its first apprenticeship campaign for its Nebo and Blackwater operations in Queensland. Five apprentice diesel fitters, including two women, have joined National Group and another three are expected to join next year.

“We have jobs that suit a range of people with different skills and backgrounds,” says Ackroyd. “We are employing more women in maintenance roles and want to hire nationwide. Most of all, we want people who want to work hard, learn new skills and be part of a great team. We are hiring right now and expect to have strong interest in the roles.”

Ackroyd says National Group’s breadth, client base, growth and culture are attractions for prospective employees. The company’s services include equipment rental, mining services, heavy haulage, maintenance, and machinery sales and auctions.

“Because National Group offers a full end-to-end service, there are opportunities to move around the company and gain different work experiences and skills,” says Ackroyd. “There aren’t too many equipment hire companies that can offer this.”

Ackroyd says the quality of National Group’s client base means employees are supplying and maintaining equipment for some of the world’s great mines. “You’ll be working on state-of-the-art equipment used by leading mining companies. If you work in maintenance, you’ll be part of one of Australia’s top maintenance teams in heavy-earthmoving equipment.”

National Group’s growth and culture are other attractions. “As a privately owned company, we are agile and make decisions quickly,” says Ackroyd. “We have an excellent culture built on collaboration, innovation and safety – and encourage a good work-life balance for all employees through flexible working arrangements, where possible.”

Ackroyd wants the latest recruitment campaign to add to the diversity of National Group’s workforce and create regional jobs. The company has a proud history of supporting regional communities through sporting, cultural and industry sponsorships.
