From the Founder

Welcome to this issue of Unstoppable, our first for 2023-24.

When we started this e-newsletter almost two years ago, the goal was simple: to inform National Group stakeholders about the company’s projects, progress and culture.

As you’ll see in this edition, there’s many good things happening at National Group to report.

In the lead article, I comment on National Group’s performance in 2022-23 and its outlook for the New Financial Year. The article has four themes: fleet expansion; investment in people; our new Environmental, Social and Governance strategy; and culture.

In mining services, it’s sometimes easier to focus on new contract awards and extensions. Less considered is the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to provide the foundations for that growth. The lead article gives a sense of that work and how it supports National Group clients and our growth.

Elsewhere in Unstoppable, we ask some employees about their journey at National Group. Whenever I’m asked about National Group’s culture, the best measure I have is that many of our people have worked here for years and grown their career.

I like seeing people from all walks of life join National Group, embrace opportunity and expand their role. In our first profile, Joanne Joyce, a Maintenance Administrator for our contract at Newcrest Mining’s Cadia gold mine, talks about her work on-site.

In other profiles, we hear from Gerry Bennett, Maintenance Manager for National Group’s Western Australia and Northern Territory operations. Gerry discusses the challenges his team faces in providing maintenance across such a large area.

The issue concludes with a feature on Shannon Smith, National Group’s Long-Term Maintenance Planner. Shannon gives an insight into the enormous work that goes into maintenance planning at National Group and how our approach helps clients.

I hope you enjoy this issue of Unstoppable and would be delighted if you refer it to colleagues, friends or family who might also find the information useful.

National Group is always looking for good people to join our team and grow their career.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Ackroyd
